What.is. easily available is a later albumbrought out by MS where she sang the same bhajans again (IIRC, not all ofthem); this was on LP and has subsequently been brought out on tape and CD.I don't think the original recordings have been re-released after the intial78 rpm releases. If anyone else knows any different, please let me know - Iam looking for good quality recordings of the originals. What I have rightnow are tapes recorded off the 78 rpms and the quality is not great.Warm regards,AbhayArchisman Mozumder02.11.04 20:03.
(Archisman) wrote in message news. Thanks for your responses, UVR-saab and Abhay. Oh yes, I do have the audio recordings of the originals. HMV had come out with the 5 cassette/CD set of MS called 'Legends'.
In that about 6-7 songs of the film were from the original soundtrack. The others were from her later-day recordings in the 60's.The Legends set has 15 songs from the film 'Meera'(7 on vol.1 and 8 on vol.2). Since some of thesesongs have Tamil words all 15 are probably fromthe Tamil version soundtrack.
Were songs -especially the bhajans with Hindi lyrics -recorded separately for the Hindi version? As an aside, there was a single HMV tape titledMS - Old Gems. This features 8 classical piecesfrom the 40s and 4 from 1962.Csandip03.11.04 6:52. Archisman. The Tamil version of Meera with M.S is available on DVD/VCD on the webfrom South Indian movie retailers. I have the soundtrack for the Tamilversion and at least in terms of melodies, they are almost similar tothe Hindi version.I have never seen the the available Tamil version and from what I cantell doesn't have any subtitles. Still.the story is well-known andthe language barrier shouldn't be a problem. The rights to the Hindi version, apparently, from what I heard wasactually given to the Ramakrishna Mission and they hold the print. TheVedanta Society over in California who run the major RamakrishnaMission bookstore in the States once told me that they have access tothe Hindi print, but don't have the money to clean up the print andsubtitle it for release. I tried to verify this story while I was inDelhi with the RK Mission there, but couldn't get any independentconfirmation.I can't recall any specific name for a website at the moment thatcarries the movie except for.
The prices are ratherinexpensive for all DVDs on that site, but from what I have been told, they are less than honest with what they advertise and the movies theysell are actually very bad pirated versions with sub-quality accessmenus. There is a site called - I think - orthat I believe has the movie.Should you ever get a copy of the Tamil version, please let me knowhow the quality was.
I might then consider buying a copy myself. Withthe exchange rates and customs duties, buying DVDs from the States andhaving them shipped to Canada can sometimes be rather pricey.Hope this helps.Sandip.(Archisman) wrote in message news.Abhay Phadnis03.11.04 6:59. 'Meera' was shot in the 1940's; asshooting the VCD/DVD in question back then would be a neat trick worthy of theold BBC television series 'Dr. Who'(1) or of the narrator of H.G. Respected Sir, Meera Tamil film (1945) is freely available in youtube now. But, the Hindi version ( 1947) is not available in CD or any other form anywhere. Except in Dhoordharsan archives and with famous journalist Niveditha Ramakrishnan who has so very kindly video-cut and extracted the song+video clips and uploaded to youtube in alaknanda2007 channel. Almost all the 20 glorious songs are available now in youtube. For my part, I have created a website presenting those clips in correct sequence so that we get the feel of seeing the movie.Kindly explore.
